Obama’s “shellacking” had more to do with the Affordable Care Act” than the economy. He essentially used all of his political capital on that. History is still in progress regarding how it will ultimately be viewed.
Fair. I do know analysts who say Obama badly overplayed the recovery and his huge stimulus bill ... if memory serves, the unemployment rate lagged and peaked at 10% in October 2022. The real backlash to the ACA came in 2014, the first year it went into effect. Around that time Obama earned the "Lie of the Year" award from Politifact for saying, if you like your plan, you can keep your plan. Whoops.
Cash for Clunkers 🤣. The first backlash was Massachusetts electing a Republican replacement for Ted Kennedy after he passed. That, it and unto itself, was a huge statement. That ended their super majority in the Senate. Then came the 2010 midterm elections, which was the “shellacking”. No, the stimulus plan didn’t help either. If I recall correctly, that was mostly a Democratic pork barrel that didn’t really do much for the economy.
Plus, the Obama stimulus plan wasn't aggressive enough to bring the economy out from the Great Recession doldrums quickly enough, which - acc. to many economists - led to several "lost" years during the recovery. Of course Biden & team took this lesson *too much* to heart and put in a huge stimulus for COVID in 2021 (building on Trump's 2020 stimulus), and then all that $$$ along with COVID-related supply-chain snafus brought on the inflation shock of 2022, which led to the GOP regaining control of the HOR in 2022 and the Senate & WH in 2024. It's fun but also sad to put into perspective these pendulum swings and how things worked out.
He will do the same thing he did earlier when he cause a riot on the Capitol grounds and got a lot of people hurt. Look Chaos is Trump's game. If he lost a race it was simply because it was rigged .Most well not most but a bunch of people like or think every thing in America is crooked. It is not but, they can not or want change their mind.The "Election's" have always been fair and,equitable in our country but, a dictator cares nothing about that unless he or she wins.Yes Trump will make it harder for people to vote but, in a way i think that in the long run that will make it better for our country.I still believe he is a "Dictator" and is unfit to be our President.
