My effort to promote civil behavior is not to summarily promote my own political views IF I'M NOT ASKED. That doesn't mean I have to swallow a lot of the foolishness I hear by lashing out and telling my neighbor he/she is nuts. When certain folks insist on telling me how bad things are with a certain blue-based party, I simply say I don't care to talk politics, sex or religion "my friend". And I'm serious. I like many of these people and they are invariably well-educated (not about everything political for sure). They're entitled to their (anti-democratic) mindset but I don't have to swallow the drivel. Do they ask for my opinion. Never.End of story. End of confrontations. Just listen and discuss the weather, the new HOA rules or something else.
Just letting them know that you don’t want to talk about politics sends a message. It generally comes across that you don’t agree and don’t want to engage. If you’re someone who they consider as a respected person, it may make them question their decision.
I’m always hopeful that my resistance to engaging with the topic translates into “Gee, I like him and he might be onto something“ Hope springs eternal and “this too shall pass“ (I hope 😉)
It is good to use old playbook tactics when the opportunity presents itself. It is foolish to depend on them to change anything. That playbook is obsolete. Autocrats don't use it. You will find a few new playbook tactics that the Destructionists will find harder to ignore, circumvent or brutally crush at https://redslider.substack.com/p/resisting-tyranny-tactical-innovations-2e5
Solid breakdown here. The point about approval ratings scaling inversly with distance from home governance is kind of wild when you think about it. I've noticed this same pattern in my own city too, where the county stuff actually works pretty smoothly but nationl politics just feels like theater. Maybe that Tocqueville observation about Americans forming associations is the real key here.
Please just remember it's not about you it's about other's like you.We sometimes forget that this is only affecting me but, that is just not true. You gotta remember that if you are willing to Love one another and stop pointing your finger's at each other we could get a lot of things done for our country. Here is a thought stop using term's like RINO to brand someone.Politics ugh!
